RLCraft has made a name for itself as being one of the toughest mods for Minecraft. The mod pack contains a plethora of new content to make the game more realistic, while also adding in a host of new monsters. With recent updates, it has only gotten more challenging. Whether you are an experienced player or a beginner, RLCraft will push your skills to the limit. That said, this beginner's guide will make sure you set out in the right direction.

Set Up Your Overlay

One of the primary features of RLCraft is locational body damage. The default health bar, which is a body on the right side of the screen, can be a bit inconvenient when it comes to accuracy. To get detailed information of the remaining health in all parts of your body, you need to be able to see them at all times. In order to do this, simply go to Mods > First Aid > Overlay > overlayMode (switch to HEARTS). Then, click on displaymode, and rewrite the tick rate from 200 to -1.

Decrease Lag

Smooth performance is important while playing a hardcore mod such as RLCraft. Using a shader pack or texture pack might make the game look stunning. The downside is that these can often make it run slower on lower-end devices. To make the game run at a steady FPS, consider disabling Better Foliage (reduced lag), deactivating fog and particle effects, and removing shader and texture packs.

Find Shelter

The world RLCraft offers has tons of monsters. Finding or creating a shelter to protect yourself must be on top of your priority list when starting out. Ideally, settle in a place with access to water, trees, gravel, and preferably not a lot of monsters. A Village is a great place to shelter, as they come with naturally generated houses.

Basic Crafting

When starting out in RLCraft, the biggest conundrum a player might find is how to craft tools. Doing so requires quite a few more steps than is required in vanilla Minecraft.

  • Flint Knife - Collect flint by breaking a block of Gravel or by picking up stones. Break the flint on a hard surface to get Flint Shards. Then, collect sticks by breaking down tree leaves. Use a Flint Shard and a stick to craft a Flint Knife.
  • Flint Hatchet - With the Flint Knife, break down some grass to collect Plant Fiber. Use three Plant Fiber to craft Plant String. Now you can craft a Flint Hatchet with one stick, one Plant String, and one Flint Shard.
  • Crafting Table - Cut down trees using the Flint Hatchet to collect wood blocks. Place the wood block on the ground and hit it with your hatchet to collect planks. Now, you can craft a Crafting Table, then craft a Wooden Pickaxe or use 12 stones to craft cobblestone to make a Stone Pickaxe.
  • Crude Shield - The cheapest shield can be created with six planks and a stick. In order to craft a Crude Shield, place the stick in the center of your crafting grid and surround it with planks while leaving any two opposite corners of the grid empty.
  • Bed - Find some Sheep and kill them in order to collect wool. Then, craft a bed with three wool. Sleeping on a bed will create a save-point in the game and restores 30% of your total health.

Pay Attention to Weather

Weather in RLCraft can get harsh enough to kill you. Don’t stay in extreme biomes. This means avoiding snowy hills, high mountains, and deserts, as they will cause you trouble. You can cool down by swimming in water or by crafting a cooling coil. You can warm up by crafting a campfire.

Stay Hydrated

You become thirsty when you run, jump, and attack. However, drinking normal, unfiltered water will give you thirst effects, similar to hunger effects from eating zombie flesh. The ideal solution to get around this problem is to craft a Canteen with six pieces of leather. Also, craft a Charcoal Filter using two pieces of paper and one charcoal.

Craft Healing Items

Eating food doesn’t heal you like it would in vanilla Minecraft. Therefore, the most important item to a have before heading into combat is the bandage. Craft a bandage using two string and wool. Each body part must be healed in order to return to full health. If your head or body take too much damage, you will die instantly.

Use XP to Level Up

In RLCraft, you need to level up certain skills in order to use some items and carry out basic tasks. For example, to wear diamond armor, players will need to bump their defense stats to level 16. It is important to note that unused XP will be lost when a player dies. So, it is a good idea to consistently keep using XP to bump up your stats whenever possible.
