Nvidia's DLSS stands for deep learning supersampling. This feature is used to help boost your frame rate by rendering frames at a lower resolution than they are displayed on the screen. This technique is often paired with ray-tracing (RTX) as it can be very performance taxing, even on the best of Graphics Cards. Dying Light 2 features multiple settings for DLSS, including its own version.

Upscaler Mode

Dying Light 2's DLSS settings can be found under Options > Video > Upscaler Mode. From here, you can choose between the below options:

  • No Upscaling
  • DLSS, Quality
  • DLSS, Balanced
  • DLSS, Performance
  • FSR, Quality
  • FSR, Balanced
  • FSR, Performance
  • Linear, Quality
  • Linear, Balanced
  • Linear, Performance

The 'No Upscaler' option forces game rendering in full resolution, which burdens the system the most. Higher quality modes, such as 'DLSS, Quality' or 'FSR, Quality' result in lower game performance.

Which Option to use?

The first question you need to answer is what brand is your Graphics Cards. FSR or AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution is AMD's competitor to Nvidia's DLSS. If you have an AMD Graphics Card, I suggest using the 'FSR, Performance' settings. For Nvidia cards, 'DLSS, Performance.' I have been using the DLSS, Performance upscaler mode, combined with some ray-traced effects while maintaining a consistent 70-80 FPS.
